I don't really want to leave. I mean, I will if fandom goes because--what's the point of keeping a fannish LJ otherwise? But I like having everything and everyone at my fingertips, and I like the comments and the friends and the intimacy and the multifannishness. And I don't want to lose track of you guuuyyys if you suddenly disappear. :(

So, tell me, are you leaving? And where are you going if you are?

I dunno if you actually have me friended, but my reasoning is thus: I am making a backup journal at Greatestjournal. When my hard drive makes funny noises, I make backups and eventually get a new one; when LJ starts making funny bans, I make a backup and eventually move out. I'm not even mad about the child abuse stuff - that seems eminently reasonable to me, and self-policing to some extent is necessary for them legally. I am fucking pissed off about how they're treating their customers, and their complete unprofessionalism and failure to warn of mass bannings and overreactions.

I'm swordage at Greatestjournal, by the way.

YES. Also, did you hear about the [livejournal.com profile] burr86 thing?

That would be the guy that vented in a comm made for stylized venting about things? That was incredibly unprofessional, to do that publicly, but I'm not sure how I feel about it. If that's the feel over at SA, I think we're fucked - they don't get that they keep hearing the same thing because we all feel this way. If that's an individual worker speaking out because he's handled way too many of these complaints and it's been a long day and he's fucking tired, that's perfectly understandable, but he probably shouldn't have done it on the service he works for and is handling complaints for. SA is, in general, shooting itself in the foot with a shotgun repeatedly. And then trying for the other one.

See, my feelings are complicated because I just bought a permanent account in the last sale, and I'm having buyer's remorse BIG TIME. I feel like I've been had. I'm angry at LJ/6A, but I'm also angry at myself for making what I knew what might be a bad move when I already had reservations about LJ's recent behavior. If it comes to the point where I just can't stand to use LJ anymore--either because everyone else has left, or I feel I have to take a stand on principle--then I will leave; the loss of the money, while unfortunate, ultimately won't devastate me, but what's really regrettable is that I can't take the money away from LJ. :(

Also, I've had this journal for over five years. That's a long damn time on the internet. I'm not just angry, I'm honestly saddened by what I see as the betrayal of a community site that used to care about its users.

It was such bad timing too! Like, right after Strikethrough they reassure us they won't delete any more fandom stuff and then they have a permanent account sale and then they go and suspend people without warning. :

At the moment I'm staying because LJ is still my *home* and I love it here.

I have created a mirror of my journal at gratestjournal just in case the restrictions get worse and my journal is suddenly suspended. Also this way people who *have* or *will* migrate to GJ will still be able to read my posts.
