Artist recs!

I have more favorites than just these, like Meg Hunt and Vera Brosgol and Chris Ware (his art is lovely in a way that's not immediately apparent), but I felt like recommending these, just off the top of my head. There's also this fantastic Japanese artist a friend showed me who uses light blue for her shadow color and does these beautifully surreal paintings, but I've forgotten her name and her website has long since been taken down. Same with Catia Chien--I adore her artwork but her gallery seems to be down for the moment.

Oh! And! Does anyone want a Vox account? I have two invites!

Would I be able to get a Vox invite?

*skitters off to look at your links*

Sure! What email address would you like me to send it to?

[identity profile] slashpile.livejournal.com 2006-07-25 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you, sweetie :)

I've taken my email addy out, because it's my RL one. Hmm, going to have to think about how I'm using it, now!

And, on another topic, your tentacle-Rodney pic yesterday? Reminded me *so* much of Farscape. Have you seen any of it? There's one ep where someone pulls up their t-shirt to show how they're changing, and it's almost exactly like this pic!

No, but [livejournal.com profile] shala mentioned it and I went woah, because this is cracked out for SGA but it's CANON in another fandom! Hee!

And you're welcome! :)

*puts up hand* Please, ma'am, may I have an invite?

(if not, that's also cool, I am easy that way ^_^)

[identity profile] mutecornett.livejournal.com 2006-07-25 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Of course! What email address should I send it to?

[identity profile] skandrae.livejournal.com 2006-07-25 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! Thank you! It's skandrae at hotmail.com

Oh the art you linked to is very interesting, thanks for sharing. I especially liked this
one ->http://neilcomics.com/lifeofpi_small.jpg.

And the link for Lillian Piri didn´t work:(

Really? It's working for me, but perhaps it went down for a while there? :( That's odd.

I'm glad you like the art! I adore all these artists, so I am spreading the joy! ♥

Yay, you're welcome! Beautiful art should be shared! ♥

Hey, I didn't want to spam Pentapus' journal anymore, so didn't get to say thanks for the links to Open Canvas. Well, thanks :)
Also, thank you for the artist links, the first artist's works are absolutely stunning. I am always amazed by people who can get textures so well with paint, digital or not. The scenery views from the link on the livejournal page were mind blowing. Incidentally, have you ever seen anything by Lawrence Alma Tadema (late 19th century Dutch painter)? He portrayed textures beautifully, most of his paintings have really gorgeous surfaces, a lot of marble, but even other stones, or soft material like cloth or petals.
I'm curious, how do you find these links to contemporary artists? Through art forums or just general browsing? Thanks again for the links :)

Oh! I'm acquainted with a couple of them under another name, through forums. You might try Eatpoo.com's forums, though they're a pretty tough group, or else ConceptArt.org. I get links to most of them from friends, though--I was introduced to the art of Matthew Woodson, Paul Pope, and James Jean by one friend, for example. I'm also subscribed to Drawn.ca's RSS feed, which tends towards cartoony stuff (actually not my preference, despite my own SGA fanart--for some weird reason, they almost never hit my preferences for art) but is still a great resource.

And yeah, Nivbed's fantastic and everyone adores him. ♥ Did you see this one (http://www.nivbed.com/desire.htm)? That's my favorite.

(And woah, Lawrence Alma Tadema's marble is amazing.)
